Humans are having a great impact on the puffin population, as is seen in the trend of puffin population decrease. How do humans have an impact on puffins? |

1. OverfishingOverfishing causes there to not be enough fish in the sea left for other annimals like puffins, so they end up starving and dying. |
2. PollutionPollution such as oil spills contmaninates the fish that puffins eat and can also make them unable to move because oil can get in their feathers, making them too heavy to fly. Another type of pollutino that impacts puffins is light pollution. Puffin chicks (called pufflings) rely on the natural light of the moon and the stars to navigate their way around the area that they live in, but the lights of the human cultural landscape can overpower the natural light and the pufflings can get lost as a result. |

3. Climate ChangeGlobal warming has an indirect impact on puffins. The rising temperature causes plankton to be less abundant, which causes sandeels and herring (types of fish) to die because there isn't enough plankton to eat. This causes puffuns to starve because there aren't enough fish to eat. |
